October is National Pet Wellness Month. Pets should visit the family veterinarian twice a year, but schedulingis tough. A Chicago business owner has a solution.
Chicago (PRWEB) October 7, 2005 — When was the last time you went to the doctor – in dog years?
Pets age seven times faster than human, on average, and changes can occur more quickly. So, if you thought the every-other year, sort of, trip to the veterinarian was enough – think again.
October is National Pet Wellness Month, according to the American Veterinarian Medical Association, and despite the fact that 70% of all pet owners think their pets’ healthcare is just as important as their own; it is often a challenge to work in pet care appointments around hectic human schedules.
One Chicago entrepreneur and pet lover has a solution. Marla Levitt, owner/operator of Glenview-based Pawz Pet Taxi, spends most days transporting pets to and from their family veterinarian for shots, chemistry panels and chest radiograms.
Fins, fangs, fur or feathers – it makes little difference to Levitt. What’s important is that her pet clients get the care that they deserve.
In recognition of National Pet Wellness Month, Levitt has three tips for pet owners:
- Pets are less active in the winter and won’t burn as many calories; so watch their calorie intake. Check with your veterinarian about the correct portions for winter.
- Small dogs with short coats should not go outside without a coat in cold weather. Consider a bi-weekly visit to a doggie day care to keep them happy and socialized.
- Include a semi-annual wellness program in your pet care routine; it will extend the life and improve the health of your pet. Better, it might prevent a life threatening illness.
Dr. Jeffery Moll, Christensen Animal Hospital says, “We know that early intervention will lead to the best outcome. Businesses, like Pawz Pet Taxi, ensure that our animal friends receive the care they need, before they need it the most. ”
Levitt will distribute pet wellness checklists to each client during the month of October.
Pawz Pet Taxi offers a top-rate chauffer service for pets traveling to and from veterinarians, day care, groomers and trainers. The initial service area includes more than 120 square miles on Chicago’s North Shore.
Pets are transported in a temperature controlled vehicle and, for their safety, secured in their own individual travel compartment or harness.
